A Photographer’s Guide to Wedding Venues in Maine

If you’re searching for the best places to get married in Maine, you’re in the right place. Since 2011, I’ve photographed over 250 weddings throughout Maine and New England. Many of those weddings were ones where I served as a lead or associate photographer, along with a number where I photographed as a second shooter. That experience has given me a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on how Maine wedding venues look, feel, and function on a real wedding day.

Over the years, I’ve photographed weddings at a wide variety of Maine wedding venues – from oceanfront resorts and historic inns to mountain estates, barns, and elegant ballrooms. Some of these venues I’ve worked at multiple times, allowing me to see them across different seasons, lighting conditions, and wedding styles.

I recently began a blog series called “Places to Get Married in Maine,” where I personally meet with individual venues and create in-depth posts highlighting their spaces and services. That series will definitely continue over the years, but I also wanted to create a comprehensive guide to wedding venues in Maine for couples who are just beginning their planning journey just for fun!

This list includes Maine wedding venues I’ve personally photographed, as well as a few well-known venues that consistently provide incredible experiences for couples.

Waterfront Wedding Venues

Maine is known for its coastline, and for good reason! Waterfront venues offer stunning backdrops, timeless New England charm, and natural beauty that needs very little embellishment.

Union Bluff | A classic oceanside venue with sweeping views and a quintessential Maine feel. Perfect for couples who want a traditional coastal wedding.

Nonantum Resort | Located in Kennebunkport, and is warm, welcoming, and beautifully maintained. This resort offers stunning water views and a relaxed-yet-refined atmosphere. I once had a groom arrive by boat to his ceremony here!

York Harbor Inn | A historic Maine wedding venue offering ocean views, elegant reception spaces, and a romantic coastal setting.

Cliff House | Dramatic ocean views and luxury accommodations make this a standout for couples wanting a refined, elevated experience.

Penobscot Bay Estate | Private, serene, and absolutely stunning! This estate is ideal for couples looking for an intimate and elegant waterfront celebration.

Autumn Lane | A lovely lake-side option that balances charm, natural beauty, and flexibility for couples planning a personalized wedding day.

Scotland Fields | A unique venue combining open fields with water views of the York River for a relaxed Maine wedding atmosphere.

Viewpoint Hotel | A modern coastal wedding venue with clean lines and bold ocean views.

Barn & Mountain Wedding Venues in Maine

If you’re drawn to Maine’s quieter landscapes (rolling hills, open fields, and endless rustic charm) these venues offer that peaceful, tucked-away feeling.

Granite Ridge Estate | A scenic Maine wedding venue with mountain views and a refined rustic feel. Absolutely BREATHTAKING in the fall.

Red Barn at Outlook Farm | A classic Maine barn wedding venue with beautiful farmland surroundings.

Grace Ventures | A brand new, unique, wedding venue in Maine offering an intentional and meaningful setting.

Moonlit Ridge Estate | A newer venue that blends modern amenities with natural beauty and open space.

Kings Hill Inn | A historic countryside wedding venue with charm, character, and intimate spaces.

Hardy Farm | One of the most sought-after barn wedding venues in Maine, known for its timeless beauty and thoughtful design.

Cunningham Farms | A family-owned Maine farm wedding venue with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

The Hitching Post | A charming, rustic barn wedding venue known for its picturesque outdoor ceremony spaces, warm reception barn, and beautiful country setting.

Country Club & Ballroom Wedding Venues in Maine

For couples who love a more traditional or polished setting, these venues offer structure, convenience, and classic elegance.

Woodlands Club | A versatile country club wedding venue with lush grounds and excellent natural light.

Clay Hill Farm | A popular Maine wedding venue known for exceptional food, service, and a cozy yet refined atmosphere.

Choosing the Right Wedding Venue

When choosing from the many places to get married in Maine, it’s important to consider more than just aesthetics. As a Maine wedding photographer, I’ve seen how venue layout, lighting, timelines, and staff coordination can all impact the wedding day experience – and your photos.

A venue that supports a smooth flow, offers great natural light, and understands wedding logistics can make a significant difference in both your stress level and your final gallery!

If you’re planning a wedding in Maine and looking for guidance on Maine wedding venues, timelines, or seasonal considerations, I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned from photographing hundreds of weddings across the state.

If you’re searching for an experienced Maine wedding photographer who knows these venues inside and out, I’d love to connect and help you plan a wedding day that feels effortless, meaningful, and beautifully documented!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.
