As a wedding photographer, I love love stories. I love to hear about them and the excitement of it all. So often I’m asked about me and Steven and our story (it was quite the fast whirlwind!), so here I am, sharing our story from the moment I actually noticed him, to when we said “I do!”
He told me that I had to dress up. That’s all he gave me for information. I had no idea where we were going, or what we were doing, but I knew I apparently had to look presentable. I can’t say I blame him for making that part clear because I had been living my life in sweatpants when I wasn’t working crazy hours between two jobs AND planning a wedding! After Steven proposed, I went to Italy for two weeks, and then when I came back wedding planning was in full force. Somehow, before I left, we had decided that we wanted to get married on August 20th, which would’ve been our seven month anniversary. If you remember from our last post, he proposed in May. That’s right, we were going to get married in three months! So, you can probably understand my regular state of wearing sweatpants! haha!
Anyway, I made sure I showered and wore nice clothes and then he BLINDFOLDED me. What the what?! He wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I very reluctantly went along with it. I probably verbally abused him, I can’t remember, but I know that I wasn’t psyched on that idea. We started driving and I could tell that he was purposely taking extra twists and turns to throw me off, and let me tell you, it worked! I had no clue where we were going. When the car finally came to a stop, he still wouldn’t let me take the blindfold off. He carefully walked me all the way to a door, and when the door opened I was surprised with…
A bridal shower!!
I was completely blown away! And impressed that they had been able to keep it from me! I was doubly impressed that Steven actually stayed for it! haha. He’s not really into that sort of thing, but I’m so glad he did! I have very fond memories of him from that party! Since we were getting married so quickly I hadn’t even thought of a bridal shower or anything like that. Steven and I were focused on finding our first apartment together that would be near his new job, but also near the university, since I had one more year of school left. We were also paying for our wedding out of pocket (SO thankful that we didn’t go into debt over our wedding!) so we were focused on making sure we kept up with working to bring in that cash flow!
We also were getting some curious questions about if we HAD to get married quickly, and to be frank, no. No, we didn’t. I just didn’t like the idea of waiting to get married, or the idea of planning a wedding during my senior year of college, and I also knew that the longer we waited to get married, the more money it would probably end up costing!
The bridal shower is such a sweet memory for me. It was in my gram’s church’s basement, and they had decorated with our wedding colors and my sister had all these fun games planned! I loved getting to see my family as we celebrated my upcoming wedding! Steven still teases me to this day about some things that happened at that bridal shower (like when he thought I lied to him) and I’m mostly impressed that he even remembers 😉
I’m beyond thankful that even though we had a short engagement that my family and friends still took the time to make the traditional parties happen! It made it feel more real that I was actually about to take this next big step in my life, and it made me even more excited to be getting married to Steven!
Friends, next week is the last installment, and if you haven’t guessed, it concludes with our wedding day!! Stay tuned!
