The Story of Us: Part Two

As a wedding photographer, I love love stories. I love to hear about them and the excitement of it all. So often I’m asked about me and Steven and our story (it was quite the fast whirlwind!), so here I am, sharing our story from the moment I actually noticed him, to when we said “I do!”

The Story of Us: Part One

“Well, now that we’re friends, we should probably  hang out.” My heart did a little jump. Wait, what? HE wants to hang out with ME? I had added him on Facebook and he accepted. I don’t remember if he sent me a message first, or if I sent him one. But knowing me and how shy I can be, he probably made that first move! haha. I wrote back and told him that I left for school again the following week and closed at work the next three nights, and then had my 40 hour weekend. “So, tonight is basically the only night for me.”

It was ALREADY 7pm y’all!

Before I knew it, we had made plans to meet up at the McDonald’s I worked at, and then we would hang out. It was the middle of January, and it was really late, so therefore it was COLD. haha. I had no idea what “hanging out” was going to consist of. I got dressed and when I was leaving my sister asked me where I was going. “Out.” was what told her. Something about my face made her say “Oh my gosh, are you going out with A BOY?!” “He’s just a friend!” I left really quickly after that!

I told my friend who was the manager that my car was staying on the lot, and that I should be back before closing, but to leave a note for the opening manager just in case. I saw him pull into the lot, I took a deep breath and I stepped out of my car. Why was I so nervous?! It’s not like I was planning to date this guy, we were JUST hanging out. And friends, hang out we did. As I went over to his car his wipers had turned on and his door was locked. I found out later on that he had a brief moment of being unusually nervous and in the process of trying to unlock the door he turned the wipers on!

We got gas and then we talked about what to do. He had a first generation Honda Insight, and so he told me that the car was full of gas and we could literally drive anywhere. We settled on driving to Acadia National Park, and we talked the whole way there. We stopped at sand beach and walked around, laid on the beach (he loaned me a pair of snow pants!) and talked some more. I had never felt so comfortable around a new person before, and I remember thinking the whole time “I really want to be his friend.”

After that we ended up at Denny’s in Bangor and finally on the way back to McDonald’s he told me had to work in a bit and so he was just going to stay up, and so I offered to chat with him online until it was time for him to leave for work so he didn’t have to worry about oversleeping.

“well, if we’re  just going to go home and keep talking online, why wouldn’t we just keep hanging out?” Before I knew it, we were at the top of a parking garage watching the sunrise. THE SUNRISE. We had literally been out ALL night just driving and talking. After being quiet for a few minutes, I looked over at Steven and caught him looking at me. I will never forget the look on his face – I knew at that moment he was it for me.

Our adventures ended at McDonald’s where he got out and scraped the frost off my car. As I watched him drive away I knew that if all we ever were was friends, then that’d be okay with me. I knew that I wanted him in my life regardless of the status.

This is the part where I usually say “And the rest is history!” But I’m going to take you on the rest of our journey together! Come back next week!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
