There’s SO much to think about on a wedding day, and I work really hard to be so much more than just a photographer on that day! I love sharing things from my experiences that will help make a wedding day go more smoothly! So, here are five things to bring to your getting ready room to help make the process of photographing this day go super smoothly!
- The rings and jewelry. A lot of times these are the things that are missing, or they’ve already been put on before I get there. Having all three rings and any additional jewelry you are wearing really helps tell the story of your day! Sometimes the jewelry is special to the family or a sweet gift from your partner, so I love being able to document it! I also like to wait to have the bride in the dress before she starts to put on the jewelry because I personally think it looks nicer and creates a really beautiful and classic photo!
- The invitation suite. The invitations can be one of the details of a wedding day that are the hardest to pick out. Often times a lot of thought and energy goes into designing and planning these, so definitely be sure you have any and all paper goods associated with your wedding day, because these make great detail shots for your album and are a great way to remember how they looked!
- Bouquets and boutonnieres. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure we keep them cool and in water when I’m not photographing them 🙂 It’s so amazing to be able to take photographs of these beautiful arrangements not only for the florist, but for you! Florals are such a staple on a wedding day and I love being able to really photograph them in all their glory!
- Family heirlooms. I love when family heirlooms are incorporated on a wedding day. They often have a lot of meaning! I loved Kathleen’s wedding day because the veil belonged to her great grandmother! It’s like I get to photograph a small piece of living history and I love hearing the story behind it!
- Perfume. We all know how powerful a scent can be, and the memories it can bring rushing back to life. Many women have that certain scent they want to wear on their wedding day, and that smell will always remind you of getting married to your partner! Having a new bottle to photograph is a fun little addition to your gallery and can even be your “something new”!
On your wedding day, there are a lot of little details, and if anything is super important to you, have those ready in your getting ready room! Here’s another tip for the “getting ready” portion of the day – BEFORE you get in your dress, it’s really helpful to have everyone else already in their dresses so that in the photos everyone looks more uniform and it creates a more classic feel 🙂
