The Story of Us: Part Four

As a wedding photographer, I love love stories. I love to hear about them and the excitement of it all. So often I’m asked about me and Steven and our story (it was quite the fast whirlwind!), so here I am, sharing our story from the moment I actually noticed him, to when we said “I do!”

The Story of Us: Part One

“You just can’t get enough, can you?” she said to him. Steven was going to come down to UMF to visit me at my dorm again, and he told his mom he was staying with a friend instead of telling where he was REALLY going, haha. So of course he had to let said friend know that she was his cover! But let me back up a second.

That first week of hanging out together was my last week of winter break from college – such timing, right?! I was going to school a solid two hours away from where he lived and I was ONLY coming back to work 40 hour weekends. At the end of that first week of hanging out, he called the house I worked at near the end of our shift (10pm) and mentioned that he had to run home to grab his wallet before coming back and staying the night in town for work the next morning (6am comes REAL quick when you work til 10!) and asked if wanted to join him on the ride.

Looking back now, this seems so silly to do, haha. I was essentially just saying yes to going on a car ride, but crushes make you do funny things! But that was a pretty pivotal car ride. On the way back into town to drop me off at my car, we had a “hypothetical” conversation… do you know where this is going?

At the end of said “hypothetical” conversation, Steven said a bunch of really sweet things that ended with him saying something along the lines of “I know a good thing when it comes along, and I don’t want to pass this up and miss out on something that could be really great.” I got out of the car and immediately texted my friends: “HE OFFICIALLY LIKES ME!!!!”

I went back to school a couple of days later and he started making the drive down during the week to hang out with me on campus. My friends met him and loved him, and though I can’t remember what day it was, I’ll never forget our first kiss. And no, I won’t go into detail, but it was really pure and sweet and HE ASKED MY PERMISSION first! I had just gone through some really really crappy stuff with a guy before Steven and so the fact that he asked to even kissed me meant the world to me and I was blown away that a guy even did this. What kind of unicorn was he?!!?

On January 20th, 2011, he told me that he didn’t feel like he was single anymore, and I told him that I agreed. Later on that evening when he left, I was completely cool and had to ask him “This means we’re officially boyfriend/girlfriend right?” Oh bless his heart for not taking it back right then and there, haha.

Come back next week to read the next chapter of our story!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
