This is a series for anyone who has ever felt nervous, awkward, unsure, or pressured in front of a camera.
Every one of these posts comes back to the same truth: you don’t need to perform to be photographed well. You don’t need to be confident, polished, or prepared. You just need to show up.
Each post speaks to a different worry I hear from clients all the time – but they all lead to the same reassurance. Wherever you are in the process, however you’re feeling, you’re doing great. Today’s installment? What I’m really looking for during a session.
A lot of people assume I’m watching closely for perfect posture, practiced smiles, or the “right” way to stand. That pressure alone can make everything feel harder.
But what I’m actually looking for is much quieter.
I’m watching for how you soften when you exhale. The way you naturally lean toward the people you love. The small expressions that happen when you forget (just for a moment) that you’re being photographed.
Those moments can’t be forced, and they don’t come from trying harder. They come from feeling safe enough to relax a little.
That’s why I’ll sometimes get excited about a moment that doesn’t feel special to you at all. The laugh you almost brushed off. The pause between poses. The way you instinctively reached for someone else.
My direction is there to support you, not control you. Think of it as a framework that leaves room for real life to happen inside it.
If you’re present, listening, and allowing yourself to be exactly where you are – that’s all I’m looking for.
You don’t have to impress me! You already belong here.
If you’re worried about doing things “right,” know that you don’t need to prepare or practice. Showing up as yourself is more than enough. When you’re ready to book, I’ll take care of the rest.
