This is a series for anyone who has ever felt nervous, awkward, unsure, or pressured in front of a camera.
Every one of these posts comes back to the same truth: you don’t need to perform to be photographed well. You don’t need to be confident, polished, or prepared. You just need to show up.
Each post speaks to a different worry I hear from clients all the time – but they all lead to the same reassurance. Wherever you are in the process, however you’re feeling, you’re doing great.
Almost every session begins with a confession: “I’m really awkward in photos.” Sometimes it’s said with a laugh, sometimes with a sigh, sometimes like a warning.
If that’s you, I want you to know this right away – awkwardness is not a problem to fix! It’s just a feeling, and feelings don’t translate to photographs the way you think they do.
Being photographed asks you to be seen. That can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’re used to staying behind the scenes or avoiding the camera altogether. Your body might feel stiff, your smile might feel forced, and your thoughts might spiral. None of that means the images won’t be beautiful.

The camera doesn’t capture your internal dialogue. It captures connection, movement, light, and moments as they unfold. And those things tend to show up even when you feel unsure.
You don’t need to suddenly feel confident or photogenic for this to work. You just need to stay present and let yourself be guided. I’ll help you find your footing, point out when something looks amazing, and remind you (often) that you’re doing great.
This week’s reminder: Feeling awkward doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human.
If you’ve been putting off photos because you feel awkward in front of the camera, this is your permission slip. You don’t have to feel ready – just willing! When you’re ready to take that step, I’d love to guide you through it!
