There are very few people that I would agree to work on my daughter’s birthday for. Mykayla and Sean are some of those people. They got married in 2020 after changing all their plans due to COVID, and then last summer they were finally able to have the celebration with their friends and family they’d been waiting for! Everyone gathered for this Union Bluff wedding in York at the end of July. It was hot, it was bright, it was absolutely epic.
There were so many amazing parts to this day. I loved seeing Sean and his groomsmen having the best time being with each other while they were getting ready. It was truly non-stop laughter in that room! Mykayla and her dad had a very emotional first look together, which was so sweet to witness. I loved meeting Sean’s mom for the first time. The vow renewal was beautiful and Mykayla’s brother Spencer did a phenomenal job with the ceremony.
But, I think that the reception was my favorite part of their day. Sean is from New Orleans, so that drove a lot of inspiration for this Union Bluff wedding decor, to make a tribute to both their homes, and it was FLAWLESS. It was clear that every single little detail had been thought through with great care, and stayed true to who they are as a couple. Aaand the speeches! I’ve photographed A LOT of weddings, but I have never personally heard a “toast” as good as the one Bethany delivered. She did a Hamilton inspired toast that was absolutely incredible and thankfully, it was recorded! Hands down an amazing speech. Aaron’s best man speech had everyone choked up. It was such a joy to hear these tributes to them!
I loved how emotional everyone got during the speeches and the first dances. But mostly, I loved how EXCITED everyone was to be there, and it definitely showed. The dance floor was so fun to photograph, and I discovered that Sean can really dance! It felt like the reception truly culminated the joy that everyone had as they celebrated Mykayla and Sean’s marriage!
Before I left, I noticed all the cigars out on the patio and I knew I had to try to get a cool photo with them. I’m so glad that Sean trusted me and went along with what probably felt like a weird thing to do! I absolutely love the photos I got to create with Sean!
Mykayla and Sean – thank you so much for trusting me with your day. It was an absolute honor to photograph your wedding not once, but twice. I love you both!
