Things they didn’t tell me | Pregnancy

  • I used to think pregnancy brain was just a joke or an excuse. It’s a very REAL thing, and I try really hard not to use it as an excuse! But seriously, I have to have so many more lists now so I don’t forget anything!
  • Just how painful it is to have all your muscles stretch. The area between my upper thighs has been in varying states of soreness and pain since about 15 weeks or so. I guess I always knew on some level that things had to stretch to get ready for labor, but man oh man. It can be intense!
  • Why do pregnant women have so much more gas than usual?!
  • You’re going to deal with a LOT of unwanted advice and comments about your appearance. People mean well, I know this, but sometimes they say really hurtful things!
  • Prenatal massage – SUCH a good idea and SO worth it!
  • Just the thought of holding my baby makes me emotional to the point of crying.
  • Heartburn. Oh my gosh. I’ve never had heartburn in the past so I had NO clue what was happening to me for at least a week before I realized it was heartburn! There should be a “you know have heartburn when…” section in pregnancy books.
  • So many people are going to be so generous and just give you what they have left from when their kids were babies! Their kindness is overwhelming and so appreciated!
  • How quickly it becomes difficult to shave your legs.
  • Nesting is no joke. I have days where I just want to CLEAN and ORGANIZE everything! Earlier this week I went through and reorganized my desk drawers at work. The other week I went through every single binder I had and got rid of all the excess/overlapping papers. At home I’ve reorganized the cupboards, set up the nursery just so and am constantly on the hunt for things to purge!
  • How easily talking can make you be out of breath.
  • You fully realize just how awesome the human body is and what it’s capable of!! When I get out of the shower and see my belly exposed, it’s just incredible! I don’t know how our bodies just don’t fall apart!
  • Your bladder will never be the same. Whenever I sneeze I’m afraid I’m going to pee a little, and 50% of the time, I do.
  • It’s kind of fun to go shopping for maternity clothes! 🙂
  • You’re going to see your partner in a different light. Seeing Steven talk to the baby or talk about the baby with friends just makes my heart explode with love. I don’t even know how I’m going to handle seeing him be with the baby!
  • You go through a LOT on a physical, emotional and spiritual level when you’re pregnant. But when it boils down to it, I love being pregnant and feeling my baby move inside of me. Some days I’m really uncomfortable and exhausted and self conscious. Some days I have a ton of energy and feel great. Overall, I am just SO incredibly happy to be pregnant and getting ready for our first child! I just want to treasure these last three months and soak it all in!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
