If you hang out with Steven long enough, you’ll probably hear him say “You do you,” at least once or twice. In a world where we are often given advice about everything (usually with the best intentions), ultimately, You Do You. YOU are the only one who can make the best decisions for yourself and your family!
For the first time in my life I feel like I’m not doing what’s expected of me. I’m leaving teaching to be a stay-at-home mom and pursue my photography business full time. I’m not staying in education and getting loans forgiven. I’m not continuing to commute to a job that no longer fulfills me. I’m leaving a stable, secure salary for something so much more unpredictable.
But here’s the thing, I’ve put a LOT of thought into this. I’ve crunched a lot of numbers. I’ve had many conversations with Steven and I have his support. It’s all I need, because I am the only one who can make this decision for me.
It’s been a valuable lesson and a reminder that I get to live life on my own terms.
And so do you – on your own terms, that is!
If you want to run a business but still have a full time day job, that’s fine! If you want to be a stay at home mom, that’s great! If you want to bring your kids to daycare and work! Awesome! If you want to drive around the country and live out of your car, fantastic!
No one can tell you what’s right for you. Not society, the industry, or your peers. The only opinion that matters to me is that of my husband and eventually our child when he or she is old enough to share opinions! Even this is different for everyone. But YOU get to decide.
That’s the beauty of life. Now go embrace it!
