Why You Need a Window In Your Getting Ready Room

I’ve worked in a lot of different situations when it comes to a wedding day, and I feel pretty confident shooting in just about anything! But, if there is ONE thing that I could have on every wedding day, I’d be in heaven. You ready for this?

A window.

Having a window in the getting ready room makes a HUGE difference in the look and feel of your photos! During the bridal prep time, it’s full of so many emotions and so much excitement and the window light really helps to accentuate those emotions! It creates soft, natural light. I often have the bride get into her dress and put on jewelry near the window because it’s honestly just so perfect!

When it comes to photography, it’s all about the light! I love to chase the light. So, by having a window in your getting ready room it will help you and your bridesmaids look your absolute best, because it will provide the most flattering light. And let’s face it, that’s something you definitely want on your wedding day.

Plus, natural light just makes you happier 🙂

So, if there’s ONE request I could make on a wedding day, that’d be it! Have a window where you’re getting ready! This goes for the guys too!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
