Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving, so naturally, everywhere I looked people were talking about what they were thankful for. This isn’t a bad thing by any means, but it baffles me that people only publicly talk about what they’re thankful for on just a few select days of the year! I guess it’s easier to be negative on social media, but I firmly believe that the more you show GRATITUDE for the things your life, the happier you are, and the more POSITIVE things you can find in your everyday life!
I keep a gratitude journal where I try to (at least on a weekly basis) write down the things I’m grateful for. Sometimes it’s as simple as hearing the rain fall on the roof, or the veggie burrito I had for lunch that day. Last week at church, Pastor Nick delivered an amazing message (as usual) on being thankful. And not just being thankful for the big things, like our health and our spouses (which are definitely great things to be thankful for!), but also the simple things like God’s love, the food in our fridge, being able to help our friends and family. And so much more!
It really warms my heart to see all the public proclamations about what people are thankful for on Thanksgiving, or even for the month of November, and I can only imagine how much happier a lot of us would be if we saw that ALL year long!
Well, to jump on the thankful train, here are some things I’m thankful for:
- my husband’s adventurous soul
- the books on my shelves
- money to put gas in the car and food in our cupboards
- my job – I may not like it some of the time, but I am thankful to have a job when so many struggle to find one
- my family
- homemade spaghetti, bread, and pasta sauce
- photos
- the trips I’ve taken
- the memories that I have
- my marriage
- my best friends
- laughter
- music
What are you thankful for? Tell me in the comments!
Here are some photos from the Friendsgiving we held a couple of weeks ago, and the quick bouldering adventure Steven and I had on Thanksgiving morning!
