That Time We Went to Quebec City

It started in 2023, our tradition of taking a kid-free girls weekend somewhere together. Looking back, it’s wild we’ve only been traveling like this together for about a year and a half, and I’m so grateful for all that we’ve been able to accomplish! Single mamas sure do know how to get thrifty! Anyway, this year, for our girls weekend we decided to do a little road trip to Quebec City!

This weekend adventure stemmed from the idea of going to see the Ice Hotel before it was too late! So this was the focus of our weekend getaway, but overall, I think this was the lowest of low-key adventures we had, and also the most affordable so far! We still had an incredible time with our time away. So, here’s a little overview of that time we went to Quebec City! Maybe it’ll inspire one of you to go see the Ice Hotel this winter!

What We Did

  • The priority was the Ice Hotel. It was absolutely wild to see. There was so much detail in all of the rooms and buildings, and it was super fun to drink out of ice cups! We had so much fun trying out the ice slide too 🙂 We had to drive to this one, so we got to see a little more of the area!
  • Walked down to Petit-Champlain so we could see the well-known road/shopping area, and also see Chateau-Frontenac (which is apparently one of the most photographed hotels in the world – and for good reason!). Our air bnb was close enough that we could walk to most places, which is always a priority for us! It was a great walk, and we got to see some cool spots to the city! There were also little spots along the way on Petit-Champlain to sit by a fire and a few cool photo ops.
  • A LOT of chilling and reading. It was a five hour drive, so we talked a ton along the drive and listened to music. We brought food with us to cook in the air bnb, and we both just totally lounged and read our books when we weren’t out and about doing things! It was very much a “let’s walk and see what we can see” kind of weekend.
  • You can see a super fun reel of what we did here!

The Finances

We split this trip 100% down the middle.

  • Air BNB – $251.76
  • Gas – $17
  • Ice Hotel tickets – $40
  • Food – roughly $75 for groceries and the couple of take-out type food options we got

The costs were SO minimal. A super affordable trip!!

The Photos

I absolutely love that Brittany is always super down for me to do a photo walk. Typically when we go anywhere, I’ll leave my big camera at our lodging and dedicate a walk to exploring and taking photos at some point during our trip.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.
