Portland, Maine Photographer :: Who sacrificed? :: Linda Barry Photography

This post is all about my husband – Steven. I can’t take all the credit for my business being where it is today. If it wasn’t for the support of Steven in this new adventure of mine, I don’t think I would’ve made it this far.  When we met, I already had my D5000, but I didn’t really care about having a business. I just really liked photography, and Steven enjoyed playing with my camera more than I did!  When I first started doing photo sessions for other people, it took a lot of time, and money. Steven was so supportive when I decided I wanted to purchase my first editing program – Lightroom 3 – and it was his idea for me to get a couple of new lenses. I’m not sure he realizes how much he motivated me by doing these small things for me. He always asked me questions about how my camera worked which, in turn, helped me to really know my camera and all of its functions (I STILL don’t know everything!).

I remember just last summer, I decided I really wanted to make a go of this business. When I booked my first wedding, he was the first person I texted, even though he was climbing in Kentucky. He supported me financially when I pretty much bought all of the items in the Photography Awesomesauce Store, and then took the time to print off EVERYTHING while I packed for summer camp, so I could start working on it on my days off there.

If it wasn’t for my husband who pushed me to be more efficient, supported me in making big jumps and decisions in my business, and just being there for me, I would’ve quit a long time ago. I’ve spent a lot of time away from my husband (especially in our first year of marriage) for this business, and I hope that one day it will be a source of income that will pay for our future children’s college expenses. He has also sacrificed a lot of his time for me and my business, between coming along with me on sessions so that I don’t have to drive, and helping me figure things out with my blog, or why my ROES system isn’t working. He does so much for me, and I’m not even sure he realizes it.

Without him, Linda Barry Photography wouldn’t be here today. For that, I am forever grateful.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
