Pinterest is so powerful! It’s such a great resource, and I personally love to use it! I wish it had been a thing when I was getting married, because that would have been SO helpful I’m sure! However, Pinterest can also be dangerous when it comes to your expectations of your wedding day.
So, as a photographer myself, there is one thing that I’m sure YOUR wedding photographer wants you to know!
Use Pinterest as a INSPIRATION GUIDE! Not as a template. Don’t expect your wedding to look EXACTLY like what you pinned. There are SO many variables that go into planning a wedding, such as location and budget, that you can’t expect yours to be exactly the same! The same goes when it comes to wedding portraits! Pinterest is full of incredibly beautiful images of all sorts of couples!
But! Please, please, don’t send a Pinterest board to your photographer and say, “these are the photos I want.” Instead, put it together with the intention of creating a MOOD! I love seeing boards my couples have created because it gives me a LOT of insight as to what they like. Such as, do they like more whimsical or more romantic photos? Do they like a more candid approach or more traditional? There’s so much we can get from a board! I also love when my couples show it to me and tell me that they trust me and my creative vision. They understand that we will never be able to recreate these exact poses because the variables will never be the same!
I’m absolutely telling you to please use Pinterest! It’s a great resource to get inspired and spark ideas! Just don’t expect your own wedding and your own photos to look like that, otherwise you will end up being disappointed and that’s not something you want to feel about your wedding day! Remember – your wedding day is supposed to be about YOU and showcase YOUR personalities! Please, don’t lose sight of that! 🙂
