During my 2015 wedding season, I had a fair amount of couples do a first look, and I’ve come to realize they’re pretty awesome! My couples are NOT required to do a first look by any means! However, I figured I’d share a brief overview of what a first look is for those who don’t know about them.
The First Look is when we take the groom and put him somewhere private. Then, we bring out the bride and stand WAY back and let them have those first moments together before the ceremony! The bride speaks to her groom, and he turns and gets to REALLY take in all the beauty! Brides who choose me as their wedding photographer will receive a lot more information about a first look just so they know all of their options!
One of the biggest reasons I enjoy a first look is that you both truly get a moment to yourselves to appreciate the fact that you are about to get married! Staying traditional is completely OKAY. It’s what I did! But, when you wait until you walk down the aisle, you can’t talk to each other, show off your dress, hug, and just get to be together! You have to wait until the end of the ceremony and then there’s no time alone after that! Experiencing a first look doesn’t take away from the magic of the ceremony, from what couples have told me!
There are so many benefits to a first look. You get more portraits, the day is more relaxed, and more importantly you get that precious time together on your wedding day to just enjoy each other’s company! If you do a first look, you still get to have more photos after the ceremony done in your “just married” status!
