Good Reads | Summer 2018

Well, friends, I’m really LOVING the books that I chose for my reading list this year! This past month or so I was busy reading and managed to make it through FOUR whole books! I feel like wonder woman, hahah. I’ve been trying to stick to a commitment I made years ago to stop buying books and get them at the library (and only buying when it wasn’t at the library, and getting used copies!) and so two of these books were from the local library which was awesome! 🙂

All right, here they are in no particular order:

  • The Magnolia Story by Chip + Joanna Gaines // I’ve only seen a handful of episodes of Fixer Upper (we’re talking maybe five or six of them), but I know that everyone seems to be obsessed with Chip and JoJo! So, when I found out they wrote a book I decided it would be fun to try it out! I read this book from start to finish in ONE day. It was such a conversational read and really captivating! I loved hearing their story of how they started because I had zero knowledge of that. The stories they told about Chip when they were parents for the first time made me laugh so hard. I loved that Joanna had no background in designing, but she ended up really making something of it. I loved the honesty in this book and how they shared about struggles that I would never had guessed they had! I highly recommend this book!!
  • If You Find This Letter by Hannah Brencher // Oh my gosh this one was amazing. She is such an incredibly talented writer, and I had never heard of this phenomenon that she started in NYC. She was honest about the struggles she was having personally + emotionally and I love that something so incredible was born out of that struggle. There were so many paragraphs that she wrote that stopped me in my tracks, one in particular that I’ll probably blog about sometime, because they were THAT good.
  • Make It Happen by Lara Casey // I LOVE everything that Lara stands for. I love her mission and I love the PowerSheets that she created. Again, this book shared things about her that I never would have known otherwise. They were things that I could really, truly, relate to, and that made this book so powerful. It’s so powerful that I couldn’t actually work through all of the action steps right now. I’m still sitting on it and processing but I’m excited to come back to it and work through some fears!
  • Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst // I have a couple of her books on my list from her because she comes so highly recommended and I can see why! There were some parts of the book that had me laughing SO hard! She writes from a place of faith which is really cool to read and this book has actually shifted some of my mindsets when I’m about to get super angry! Granted, I still get upset and don’t react like I would like to, but it’s making baby steps in my heart! I love how she breaks down the different kinds of way people can react to a situation and it really helped me see what kind of processor I am!

I love all of these books and would definitely recommend them! I’m pretty sure they’ve all changed my life in some way and that’s amazing 🙂 Tell me, what are you reading now?

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
