Portland, Maine Photographer :: A month in review

I pretty much blinked and July was over! What a month it was! Here are the goals that I set for myself earlier this month to accomplish:

For the month of July 2013 I hope to accomplish the following –

  • Check out a couple of local networking groups to continue working on getting my name out there!
  • Get caught up on my photo challenge. I’ve been slacking majorly!
  • Finish all my creativelive courses that I’ve bought.
  • Stick to a business schedule
  • Have a better system for backing up photos.
  • Have personal photo days
  • Check out improvephotography.com more often
  • Read the following books:
  • Purple Cow by Seth Godin
  • Getting things done by David Allen
  • Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey

It would seem that I wasn’t very successful, but I feel really good about the progress I DID make. I’m almost caught up on my photo challenge, I just need the mister’s help for a few of them 🙂 I am almost done with ONE of my creativelive courses! I never fully realized how much time it would take to watch one of them. I also realized that I have a pretty solid back-up system. The only thing I have to figure out is an off-site location!

Here is something that I realized this month – I made progress on each and every goal, I just didn’t get to complete them 100%. And that is OKAY. I’m really hard on myself, but I have to realize that sometimes, I set more goals than I can realistically accomplish. Having this summer off from school and such has helped me learn some things about myself. One thing that I’ve learned is that I don’t like setting specific times for myself for a schedule. I just like to break my day up into tasks that have to be completed. I feel much more accomplished that way, and I don’t get stressed about times and feeling like I’m already failing myself. It still needs a little fine tuning in the self-discipline department, but it’s a work in progress! I’m happy about that.

I try to be superwoman, and sometimes, it just won’t happen. The rest of this year is going to be crazy busy so that is something that I have to remind myself of, that I don’t have to do it ALL. I just have to do enough to make me feel good about myself.

So, here’s to making realistic expectations and goals! In the short term, I mean 🙂 There are always going to be big goals that I would like to achieve but there’s always the possibility it won’t happen.

I’m excited about this new outlook I have for my business, and I’m excited to see where the rest of this year takes me! I will be sharing August goals very soon!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
