#1. Get off facebook.
I’m not joking, haha. It makes a WORLD of difference when I don’t have facebook open, or ANY type of window that I do NOT need open that could potentially distract me from what I am trying to do.
#2. Block off the time.
Sometimes, I literally will block off time in my planner for something that I need to do (like clean my house or edit a session). This helps keep that time a priority and reminds me of what I need to be doing.
#3. Time yourself.
Nothing makes me work faster than trying to see how fast I can get it done! I’ve also started to log my hours in a notebook of things that I’m doing, and it’s really opening to my eyes just how much time I spend doing “stuff.” Also by logging my hours and what I’m doing in those hours, it keeps me on track so I can be true to what I am writing down in my notebook!
#4. Take stretch breaks.
If you are going to be working at something for a long time, it’s important to let yourself stand up every so often and let your eyes rest if you plan to be at a computer. I use the pomodoro app on my phone that sets a timer for 25 minutes, and then gives me a five minute timer for a break, and then goes back to the 25 minutes. Taking those breaks can really make a difference! It gives you something to look forward to and helps keep you “fresh.”
#5. Ask your family (or whoever lives with you) if they need anything from you before you start to do something.
For example, if you are a blogger, and are going to sit down to do a week’s worth of posts, ask your family if they need anything from you before you get started, and let them know that you aren’t coming out until it’s done. If they know this, they can get any questions or favors needed out of the way first and leave you alone to work. You want to eliminate the chance of any distractions!
