A Day in the Life of Lily | Installment 10

Well, I had intended to start spacing these out to be every six months, but that turned into eighteen, haha. It’s been a while since the last Day in the Life of Lily, but as my friend Sarah likes to say “life is gonna life.”

It occurred to me a few months ago that it has been a really long time since our last installment in Lily’s photo project. So, we did it on Christmas Day and it was the best day ever. We like to wait for a day when both Steven and I are home so that we can each photograph ALL day.

If you’re new around here, when Lily was about four months old, I realized that the monthly photos weren’t enough for me. I felt like they definitely showed how she changed physically, but not developmentally. So I started “A Day in the Life of Lily” and it’s been one of my favorite projects. We choose a day and we photograph everything from that day so we can watch her grow physically AND developmentally. It’s so bittersweet! I think now we are at the point where we will do them once a year.

What I want to remember about this day in the life:

Our Christmas Day was so sweet this year. Last year was the first year we stayed home on Christmas Day and I decided that we are going to keep that tradition up. One of my favorite memories from this day was when Lily helped get all the presents around the tree organized for Steven’s time-lapse video he wanted to create. She moved a bag and a box (that I truly thought were empty) and said that they were her presents, we couldn’t open them, and that she was so excited to see what was inside.

Steven and I chuckled and thought she was being cute, so I photographed her opening the “presents” anyway. Y’all, SHE TOOK STUFF FROM HER ROOM AND “WRAPPED” THEM FOR HERSELF. My heart could’ve exploded. It was seriously so stinkin’ cute and I just couldn’t handle it, or how excited she was when she opened the gifts she already knew about, haha.

This Christmas was special because it was also our first family movie night. Lily is 3.5 years old and doesn’t watch TV and has never seen a movie before. We’ve waited this long for a myriad of reasons, but this year I got her The Polar Express book to read, so we could watch the movie on Christmas Day together. She was SO excited for the movie! She was literally jumping up and down in the kitchen while the popcorn was in the microwave, brought the bowl into the living room on the couch and then proclaimed “I’M READY TO CUDDLE!!” Talk about melting hearts! We didn’t know what to expect, but she loved the movie. She was so engaged, and we loved hearing what she was saying about it as she was watching!

Last year we did a gingerbread house, and decided to make that a tradition. This year was so fun because Lily was able to help us more with it. I was dying laughing because Steven kept trying to throw the little candy balls at the gingerbread house to see if it would stick to the frosting. All they did, though, was bounce right off!

What’s new since the last installment:

  • She’s fully potty trained – thank the Lord!
  • Lily has been in her toddler bed (which was Steven’s when he was a toddler, built by his grandfather!) for almost a year now.
  • Her hair is wild and crazy and beautiful.
  • One of her favorite things to do is make up her own songs and sing and dance! She’s always putting on a show!
  • Lily got a new kitchen for Christmas and she’s obsessed with it and wants to play with it ALL the time.
  • Our close friend is pregnant, and Lily regularly talks about how she now has a baby in her belly. It’s so stinking funny to hear her talk about.
  • She’s starting to show an interest in climbing and Steven and I are thrilled about it!
  • We’ve been teaching her more card games and board games and she’s been really loving playing them.
  • Lily is so independent and capable now on so many levels!
  • I love to watch her draw now. She’s obsessed and her people are starting to look like people!
  • Lily’s language is just out of this world, and she’s constantly saying the most hilarious things! I wish we had someone following us around all the time to keep track of it all 🙂

Well, here are some of my faves from Lily’s 10th installment of “A day in the life of Lily!”

If you made it this far, thanks for following along with Lily as she grows!! This is one of my favorite photo projects I’ve done 🙂 If you want to see the past installments, you can find them here! ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE // SIX // SEVEN // EIGHT // NINE //

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.
