Oh Lily, being your mama has been so amazing so far. There’s nothing else in my world like it. I love being able to watch you grow and discover new things – like your hands! The other day you held a rattle for a couple of minutes and shook it around and I was SO proud of you little girl! You’ve been able to play on your play mat for longer periods of time now, and I love watching your little legs kick like crazy while you’re laying on it.
You’re making huge strides and impressing so many people with what you can already do at 9 weeks old, and I am just so incredibly proud because you ARE so incredible.
When we have our girl talk while you’re on the changing table, I look into your amazing eyes and I know that you are going to do great things in this world. I don’t know what they are yet, but I have no doubt in my mind that you will.
You’ve taught me so much in these short 9 weeks you’ve been on this earth. My time management has increased 100% during your naps; I love you like I’ve never loved anyone; you’ve taught me so much patience and compassion; and above all things you’ve taught me what it means to be a mom.
As your soul shines through your personality as you get older, I hope that you learn how to be truly present. Being present is far more important than dwelling on things you can’t change, or getting caught up in technology. I hope that I can always be present when I’m with you, and that you never think for one second that my phone is more important than you.
I hope that you respect your body and that you demand respect from others as well.
I hope that you feel beautiful, because you are, and not because of what society deems beautiful. But because you already have this kind, gentle way about you (except for when you’re screaming) and that is far more beautiful than looks will ever be.
I hope that you always follow your dreams, because if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be following mine.
I hope you laugh every day.
I hope you treat others with kindness and compassion.
I hope you continue to smile as much as you do now.
I hope you appreciate our environment and that you love to be outside like your dad and I do.
Above all else, I hope that you truly live, because this world has so much to offer you if you’re willing to accept it.
I love you so very much, my sweet girl.
