Camera Straps // Tips for Photographers

Everyone has their own preference of whether or not to use camera straps or hand straps, or holsters, or whatever other option is out there for cameras these days. But, maybe a little over a year ago now, I discovered a new system that I’ve absolutely LOVED since I started implementing it!

Now, years and years ago, I decided that I hated shooting with my camera strap on. It always got in the way and just took up time. And for whatever reason, it just didn’t feel “professional” to me, which is such an awful thing to say or feel, because I know that it’s not the camera strap or even the camera that you are using that makes you a professional! But I really did hate the way the straps that came with my Nikon cameras looked. Plus, they weren’t comfy.

So, off they went! But then I had to basically exclusively use my camera without a camera strap all the time, which was actually inconvenient at times, but it was SUCH a pain to put the straps that came with the camera back on!

Enter… peak design!

I freaking LOVE these! They’re these clips that you add to the end of a camera strap of your choice and they clip on to the other end that you attach to your camera! They’re SUPER easy to install and use, and they’re FAST! So I can easily remove the strap when it’s time to shoot a wedding, and then put it back on when I need a strap for personal things!

I only use a camera strap when we are doing things as a family, because it’s easier to hold Lily’s hand when my camera is around my body instead of cradled in my arm. I bought a really nice leather strap at the same time I bought the peak design clips, and seriously, I’ll never use anything else now!

This is the link on Amazon to the anchor links themselves, without a strap. If you want a strap included, just look up “peak design” on Amazon and you’ll find other camera straps as well!

I wanted to share this little tidbit today about my camera strap system in case someone else can benefit from this!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.
