An accidental boundary

Setting boundaries in all areas of my life is important, and it’s healthy. Over the past few years as I’ve started chasing the simple life, I’ve really focused and tweaked a lot of boundaries on my time, my space and my health.

About a week after we moved to MA, Lily had my phone and when I took it from her, the screen was shattered. I have NO idea how it happened, we didn’t hear it hit anything or fall to the floor. So, it’s a mystery. Instead of fixing the screen, I ordered a refurbished iPhone 6 for less than what I paid for my iPhone 5s two years ago. Major bummer, because my other phone was still functional and I wasn’t into the idea of paying for any sort of phone related things at the moment.

But overall, it’s been nice to have a newer phone that has MORE space on it! Thank goodness! I was often getting “your storage is full” notifications on my old phone and it drove me bananas! But one thing that I didn’t do when I set up my new phone was re-activate my e-mail app for my business. It’s not a g-mail account so it takes a couple of extra steps to set it up on my phone, and I was feeling lazy and I just didn’t do it.

Fast forward almost a month and I still haven’t installed it on my phone. It started out as a thing I just haven’t gotten to, to a boundary that was put in place on accident, but I’m LOVING it. So, I’m keeping it that way.

I realize now how much less I look at my phone because I don’t have my e-mail app on there. I was refreshing that thing a zillion times a day, and for what?!

Now I check my work e-mail a couple of times a day Monday through Friday, and occasionally on the weekends if I’m already on my laptop, but other than that, that’s it! I have this weird sense of calm now that I didn’t realize I was actually missing!

What about you? Have you set any boundaries on accident? Have you tried deleting your work email off your phone before? Tell me in the comments below!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
