Wedding planners can be really really helpful to you as you’re planning your wedding AND on the day of your wedding! I’ve worked with a fair amount, and some were downright amazing, and others… well.. not so much unfortunately.
I think that there are four qualities you should be looking for when you are considering choosing a wedding planner:
- Responsiveness. It is SO important that they are able to respond to your needs and those of your vendors in a TIMELY manner. I’ve had brides tell me that they’ve gone more than a week without hearing a response from their planner and that was really stressful for them!
- Able to work with all vendors equally. I hate to say this, but I’ve had some planners treat me and some of the other vendors like dirt and it just leaves a bad taste in our mouth! You want to find someone that everyone can enjoy working with and is truly a team player. Someone who checks in on everyone on the day of to make sure they have what they need! Someone who can just support everyone throughout the process!
- Make sure they plan to show up. This really shouldn’t be listed, but there have been times that wedding planners just didn’t show up on the day of!
- Organization and problem solving skills. Your wedding planner should be totally able to handle any problems that arise on the wedding day and any that pop up leading up to it! They should also be very organized so that they are able to make your life easier, not more stressful! If they are working with several clients, organization has to be top notch!!
Keep in mind that there are different kinds of wedding planners you can hire. You can hire someone to help with everything, or just someone to be there on the day of! It’s up to you, your fiancé, and your budget! An interview should also be part of the process of hiring a planner so that you can ensure that they are a good match for you both!
