Portland, Maine Photographer :: 5 Reasons to have a blog and a website :: Linda Barry Photography

Today I just wanted to talk about why I think it is important to have a blog and a website, or a combination of the two.

#1. Websites are static.

This is a huge deal to me. It can take a lot of work to constantly be updating a website! To me, I want my website to draw in potential clients, and then hopefully they’ll go over to the blog to see my most recent work.

#2. Blogs are WAY easier to keep updated.

It’s as simple as scheduling a post! You can easily set up a ton of posts to run at certain times, and it’s also just as easy to do them daily. The point is that it’s super simple to keep a blog as updated as you’d like it to be!

#3. Blogs are personal.

On a whole ‘nother level. Reading someone’s blog can sort of be like reading their diary. It really allows you to see who they are as a person. At least, that is what I look for when I visit a blog. All business and no play is no fun! I can only convey my personality so much on a static website. But a revolving blog? Personality central!

#4. Websites can drive traffic to a blog.

And vice versa. The blog and the website should complement each other and work FOR YOU and your business.

#5. People can interact on blogs.

On a blog post, people are able to leave comments and partake in conversations with other readers or the author. It adds an entirely new level of personal connection and interactions!

So, I know this is mostly saying why blogs are great – because they are! – but I really think it’s import to have BOTH a blog and a website. They both serve a great purpose, and when done well, can really do some awesome things for you!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
