How I Plan my Social Media // Small Business

Have you heard that saying “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”? Well, I believe it’s so incredibly true, and today I wanted to share with you how I plan my social media for my business!

Everyone has their own goals for how they want to post to social media, but the key is to BE CONSISTENT. It doesn’t matter if you post once a week or once a month, but just be consistent so your audience knows what to expect!

I like to think that even though I love lists and planners, and having things organized and simplified, I’m pretty relaxed and easy going as well. But if you get me talking about how I organize things I can talk your ear off forever! haha. I have found that by planning out and prepping my social media at least a week in advance, I actually feel so free and way less stressed and pressured about social media.

For me, I personally plan on blogging three times a week (sometimes more), and posting to Instagram and Facebook five times a week each. I also try to make sure that I’m not posting the same thing to Instagram and Facebook each day unless I’m sharing about a blog post. But sometimes I’ll just share about my blog post in my insta-story instead of making a post. The options are endless! haha.

Every Thursday I fill out my content planner (this takes me about five minutes) and then every Friday during my office time that’s when I’m prepping gear for weddings, but also doing my social media prep for the following week!

I also try to plan out my blog posts a month in advance – meaning I just print a blank month calendar and fill in blog topic ideas. Then when I fill out my content planner for the week I already know what I want to blog about! It’s been a game changer, and I actually find that the more I plan ahead, the more creative I get and the ideas really start to flow, so I’m actually able to plan out weeks at a time because I get so many ideas! Doing things in advance can really make things SO much better for you!

Even though I create this plan each week, I also give myself the freedom to change things up if I’m feeling something different I’m wanting to share about! I never post in real time (thank you Planoly and facebook scheduler!) so I have so much of my life back!

I like to post a variety of personal things, my work, and then other tips and tricks for photographers, small business owners, and just life in general. I try to keep it joyful, real, and I don’t shy away from the hard stuff as it comes up. I want this to be a legacy I leave behind someday, so that Lily can see it when she’s older and see how much I freaking loved being her mama, and how joyful I am about life.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
