I’ve been meaning to do a “what’s in my bag?” post for a while now, and someone asked me earlier this week about what I used for gear, so I figured it’d be a perfect time to share what I shoot with and why! I also wanted to share this at this point in my business, because I don’t have a lot of gear, and I think it’s important to realize that you don’t NEED to have the newest and best gear to make amazing photos.
Nikon D700: This is the full-frame body that I purchased, used, on Amazon earlier this year. I had the best luck with finding a good buyer, and a camera in such great condition. I LOVE my D700 more than words can describe, haha.
Nikkor 50mm 1.4: I purchased this lens when I bought my D700, as I didn’t have any FX lenses yet. LOVE it. I use this lens for EVERYTHING. I’ve shot entire weddings on just a 50mm. I love using it for portraits and details.
Vivitar Extension Tubes: I can’t afford a 105mm lens right now. However, I could afford these tubes, and they’ve been amazing. I use these with my 50mm on all of my ring shots. In love with it! Such a great investment at this point in my business.
Nikkor 85mm 1.8: I just recently purchased this lens, used, about a month ago. I’ve only used it a few times. I used it for an adorable session of a mommy and her son, and at ceremonies during weddings. It’s a pretty snazzy lens 🙂
I still have my D5000 (and a 35mm, the 18-55mm, and 55-200 mm) that I started shooting with. I bring it with me to weddings as a backup camera, because it’s still awesome. The rest of the time it is used by my husband for his various adventures 🙂
There you have it! I know I’m not the worlds most incredible photographer, but I feel like I have some pretty awesome images, and it’s not with a lot of gear! Just remember, it’s not the gear, it’s the photographer that makes the images.
