Photo of the Day – January

In 2010, I started a photo-of-the-day project, and little did I know that would be one of the biggest years of my life to document. I met Steven, got engaged, traveled to Italy, got married, got my first apartment – y’know, just all of the big societal milestones in one fell swoop.

I’ve been feeling lately like I wanted to do something creative again to help ensure that I’m picking up my camera every day for personal use. These past few months I’m only picking it up once a week or so, and it doesn’t feel good, haha.

So, I decided I would do another photo of the day project! My photography skills have come SO far over the last ten years, so I’m excited to see the difference in my photos. Also, I didn’t realize until the first day of January (when I started) that it’s actually been a decade since my last project, AND it’s the start of a NEW decade! The whole thing just feels so fitting to be doing right now!

What makes this a little extra fun is that now Steven can also help me with this photo of the day project, for those moments where there just isn’t time for a tripod and timer. He’s such a good photographer!

With all that being said, I’ve decided that I will share a recap post each month to share the project with you all! Here is January’s photo of the day series!!

1 // We spent New Year’s Day bouldering outside at Lincoln Woods! This was my first time climbing outdoors in well over a year, and it was so fun! We went with our friends Sarah and Shania, and Lily came too! Super super solid day 🙂
2 // Lily LOVES playing with her little cash register she got for Christmas. So, we’ve been doing a lot of that.
3 // 2020 Powersheets prep and me watching Kaley Cuoco’s IGTV episodes. I don’t know why I like them so much, but I do! haha.
4 // I was telling my friend Sarah that we lived in Portland for so long and there’s still so much we never saw, and that made me sad. I didn’t want to live practically in Boston for X number of years and never see the city. So, she’s going to be my exploratory buddy! We came up with a solid list of places to start with, and this day we went to the Boston Public Library (which had me speechless) and the Parish Cafe for lunch! I’m so excited for more adventures!
5 // Lily’s blanket was officially too small, so we went to JoAnn’s and had her pick out fabrics to make her a new one that was much bigger (she said her quilt we have for her wasn’t soft enough, haha) and would last for a while! We all love how it came out!
6 // We got Lily card games for Christmas and started teaching them to her. She’s loving them, we play regularly and it’s even more fun when Daddy is home and can join us!
7 // My usual breakfast. 🙂
8 // Wanted to try a macro shot for this day, so I grabbed our toothpicks and put them on the windowsill! I love how it came out!!
9 // Came into the kitchen where Steven was fixing a phone, to find Lily also “fixing” her phone. I just can’t even handle it.
10 // My mom’s birthday card! I made it late, but I do love making homemade cards 🙂
11 // I love when there’s warm enough days in the winter to go to the playground without getting all bundled up! I think this day was 50-60 degrees!
12 // One of our most favorite dinners – quinoa and goat cheese cakes!
13 // Lily has collected a lot of rocks from our beach adventures, and lately she’s been really into playing with them! I love it 🙂
14 // We do a LOT of coloring and drawing around here these days!
15 // Today was Sarah’s birthday and Steven sent us on a mystery scavenger hunt that led us to massages and mani/pedis! It was so fun to get to spend her birthday with her!
16 // Always drawing and writing. Loving her hairstyle too 🙂
17 // Lily can do SO many things independently now, and one of those things is to get her own yogurt and jelly for breakfast!
18 // Steven got me a time turner for Christmas and I LOVE it! It’s so beautiful and dainty.
19 // Something that’s new and fun this winter is that Lily actually wants to go outside and play in the snow – AND she enjoys it! We don’t seem to get snow often here in the Boston area, but when we do Lily likes to build a snowman! She’s the perfect little helper for Steven!
20 // We went to The Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Auntie Krystle’s birthday a couple of days early!!
21 // Steven and I celebrated 9 years of being a couple, and bought these beautiful ranculus from a local farm to celebrate!
22 // Frost on the inside of the windows in the sunroom where I teach in the mornings. It’s so cool!
23 // The Good Place night with Sarah – calls for brownies in a mug and ice cream!
24 // Love that she wanted to “wash” her own water bottle today!
25 // The look of a mama who got to have 2+ hours alone on a Saturday morning. Went to the rock gym to use the treadmill and stairmaster; Steven and Lily went to the grocery store; and I got a long hot shower by myself!
26 // First date night since August! Love this man so much!!
27 // Tried a new recipe tonight – twice baked potato with broccoli and cheese!
28 // Lily is currently loving “I spy” type books, and I love doing them with her! We often lay on my bed and read books together these days and it’s so sweet.
29 // Can’t go wrong with cookies!
30 // Family walk by the river!!
31 // Lily started showing a relatively significant interest in climbing in December, and we are loving it! Here we are counting the knot together to make sure there’s ten before she starts climbing! Steven got so many good photos of Lily climbing this day, and we are just so excited and proud of her! She’s so strong and brave!

Well, there’s the first month! I hope you’ll follow along with me on my photo of the day project for 2020!!

Linda, this is so great! I love this style — so similar but so different, too, from the one ten years ago! JEEZ — I cannot believe it’s been ten years! While I’m not doing this one with you, I’ll try to keep reminding you like we did for each other back then! 😛

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
