We had originally planned to go to DC this summer for our annual family vacation. But as we got closer to making a final decision, it didn’t feel right to travel there for a week when we’ve been working SO hard on making wise financial decisions and paying down some of our debt.
So we switched gears and decided to head up to Maine to be near our family for the week instead! We started the trip with a wonderful wedding weekend for our housemates Kevin and Leah. It was the best way to start a vacation and I’m so beyond happy for them!
The whole week was a fantastic week. We got to bring Lily to Acadia National Park for her first time, and it made my heart so freaking happy. Acadia is such a special place for me and Steven and it felt so good to share that with her! Hands down one of my most favorite places in the world.
We had this gem of a conversation with her when we were leaving Acadia, and it makes me laugh still!
Steven : Lily what was your favorite part of the day today?
Lily: um. The thunder boom. (She means thunder hole.)
Steven: that’s awesome! What else did you like from today?
Lily: the rocks.
S: which rocks?
L: the ocean rocks. The one I was crying on.
Lily went on her first fishing excursion and caught her first fish! She had a ton of fun on the boat, but I don’t she fully understood why we were out there, and why we were so excited that she caught a fish, haha.
We also made lunch for my gram, had a bonfire at my parents house (complete with s’mores!), and apple picking with both of Lily’s grandmothers! Steven and I also got to have a night out with our friends Calvin and Emma and we got to see Saturn through a telescope! It was so cool!
I’m so happy we switched gears, because down the road, I’m not going to look back and feel bummed we changed plans to save money. Instead I’m going to remember how happy we were that week and all the incredible memories we made!! Here are a few of my favorite photos from our annual family vacation!
