I am really enjoying cake smash photo sessions! It’s so fun to see what little ones actually end up doing with their cake! Callie was so interested in her cake when she couldn’t have it, but then once she had it, she didn’t really want to dig in! Lily was the same way for her first birthday!
When I was working with Brittany on Callie’s cake smash, we talked a lot about how to prepare for it, so I felt that it would be useful to have a blog post for all other parents who are planning a first birthday cake smash session!
- Keep it simple. I loved how Callie’s set up was very minimal, but still showcased the fact that it was her first birthday! It also stuck to a theme of silver, pink, and white which gave it a cohesive look. The more simple the decor is, the more the focus is on your little one and their cake!
- Don’t be afraid to wear a fun outfit! Just be okay with it getting super dirty!
- Natural light is always the best. Find a space that is near at least one window so that there is plenty of light coming in! The more windows, the better!
- If you have neutral walls, use that as a backdrop! It can really make the decor pop, as well as your little one digging in!
- Have fun with it! This is the most important – after all, your child only turns one once!
There you have it, five tips on setting up your area for a cake smash session! If you have any other ideas to add to this, leave it in the comments below!
