Book Review | Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook

I have a love-hate relationship with social media. Some days I tell myself that if I didn’t have my business I wouldn’t have facebook or anything like that. Whether or not I would follow through with that is a different story, haha.

But the truth is, social media has been powerful for my business because it really allows me to find ways to CONNECT on a personal level with people who interact with me on Facebook and Instagram!

Learning new things is a passion of mine. I’m always going to be a life-long learner and I love reading books that can impact my business, and also books that can impact my personal well being.

I recently finished reading “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook,” by Gary Vaynerchuk and I really liked it! I’ve read a few other books of his and though they were really well written and well informed. This book in particular is ALL about social media and the different platforms that are out there. The biggest takeaway from this book is that you have to use each platform the way it was meant to be used. You can’t use twitter the same way you would use your facebook, for example.

One reason I really think this book is an excellent resource is because for each platform it walks you through several examples of posts made on each social media platform, and then talked about why it was an excellent “jab” or “right hook” or why it wasn’t really a good use of the platform! These examples really helped me think about how I use social media, and how I can improve on it!

If you are a small business owner who is using social media to help market your business, you should totally go check this book out from the library, borrow it from a friend, or go to a local bookstore and snag a copy! It’s definitely not a boring read, because he writes the way he talks and that makes it very easy to stay engaged in the content!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
