Oh my sweet girl.
You’re almost a year old now, and I LOVE being your mama. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about you and your future. You’re already SO smart and funny and you have such a big personality. I know that as you get older it’s only going to be more amazing.
But there’s something I want you to know – as you get older, different challenges also arise. My heart breaks to think about some of things you’ll face. Things like someone telling you that you aren’t pretty enough. Or that you’re not smart enough, or even TOO smart. Someday someone is going to be mean to you and make you feel like you aren’t worthy. Someone will judge you on your eating habits or how you dress. Your mama went through the same thing and I hope you never have to experience it. But if you do…
Lily, I just need you to know that YOU ARE ENOUGH. Just as you are. You will ALWAYS be enough and I hope that you always choose to surround yourself with people who feel that way too. I hope that you show grace and kindness even to those who don’t show you the same, because sometimes all they need is someone to extend that to them so that they can start to change.
I hope that you understand that some people are going to face challenges that you might never face yourself, and that can make people do things that we can’t begin to understand.
I need you to always remember that it never has to do with you. It’s usually something going on in their own lives. I pray that you always believe in yourself, because your dad and I believe in you with everything that we have.
You are going to have so much to offer this world, and I hope you never lose sight of that. Don’t let the world change you.
You do you, sweet girl, and you NEVER be ashamed of that. You own it and rock it like you already do!
