How to Not Hate Your Wedding Photos

We’ve all heard the horror stories of couples getting awful wedding photos. It honestly breaks my heart when I hear about couples not getting photos they love, or just a terrible experience with their wedding photographer. So, I wanted to do a fun little blog post about how to not hate your wedding photos!

The reality is – a lot of these disappointments come from unmet expectations. So, let’s go over four things that will help manage expectations! This will be short and sweet 🙂

  1. Look at a complete wedding gallery from your photographer. This gives a really good look at what to expect in terms of their ability. If they’ve photographed at your wedding venue before, then definitely ask to see a gallery from that venue. Then you’ll REALLY know if they’re able to handle any of the situations that they may find themselves in. Bottom line, anyone can post a few stellar photos on their website to draw anyone in – but showing that they can deliver an ENTIRE solid gallery is really important!
  2. Make sure you like what you see. Look at their work in their full gallery, on their social, and on their website. THAT is the style that you can expect. If you prefer having darker images, do not hire someone who has super light and bright photos on everything and then expect them to deliver darker images. What you see is what you’re going to get!
  3. Do an engagement session. This helps you get SO comfortable with the photographer BEFORE the wedding day. This also helps to affirm that you are a good fit with each other! Personality really does matter, and if you don’t vibe with your photographer the wedding day can actually feel pretty awkward at times!
  4. Get to know who they are as a person. Again, this comes down to vibing with your photographer. If you want to feel super comfortable in the camera, it’s also important that you feel comfortable with the person who is holding the camera!

If you take care of these four items, I’m sure that you’ll love your wedding photos at the end of the experience! I’m so grateful that I’m able to deliver a high quality experience to all my couples that I’ve worked with! To inquire about wedding photography you can go >>here<< to contact me!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
