Need Motivation to Edit that Wedding?

motivation to edit 2

Okay, editing weddings is usually the least favorite part of a photographer’s job. Personally, I don’t mind it and actually enjoy editing! However, sometimes I still need motivation to get to the computer and get to work! I wanted to share this one tip with you all today that really made a HUGE difference in my motivation to edit and KEEP editing.

Sort your photos into collections on Lightroom, and then edit from largest to smallest!

collections in lightroom

When I import all the culled photos into lightroom, I immediately drag the photos into individual collections, such as reception, bridal prep, ceremony, details, etc. Once I have them all in their collections it makes it super easy to edit consistently, first of all, because you’re dealing with the same aspects of the day in one spot. It also shows me how many photos I have for each part of the day! So, I will start with the collection that has the biggest number of photos (typically the reception!) and edit that one FIRST. Getting a big group of photos done first leaves you with a sense of accomplishment, you get the hardest one out of the way immediately, and it makes the rest of the editing feel more manageable!! From there I edit the next largest, and work through them until I’ve gotten through all the collections.

Do you have any other tips for how to stay motivated to edit?

  1. Linda, this is absolutely fantastic! It seems so obvious now, but wow! This makes such a difference for those bulky projects. Thanks for such a great tip!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
