Lessons Learned | Hard Drives

DSC_3474

I wrote a blog post a few months ago about how to prepare for your busy season if you’re a photographer. Apparently I didn’t take my own advice. In that blog post I talked about how you should take inventory of all your SD + CF cards, batteries, and even your hard drives.

Well, I definitely took care of my cards and batteries but completely overlooked my hard drives. I photographed an AMAZING wedding this past Saturday, and as I was importing all the images, I realized that not one, but TWO of my hard drives that I use for storing images were just about full. Thankfully, I was able to manage it so that I still had enough space to do what I need to do to get this wedding done. But the reality is, my workflow for importing + editing has become really streamlined and efficient for me. Guess what it hasn’t been these past two days? Definitely NOT efficient.

By having to switch things up from what I normally do, I’ve lost the groove I’m usually in and haven’t been making the best use of my time. In the long run, it’s going to be fine and I’ll still have my normal turnaround time, but it caused some stress and worry for a hot minute, and that’s not a fun feeling! Each of my hard drives serves a different purpose and I’ll be ordering what I need to get through the rest of the season, but lesson learned! At the start of each season I need to take a realistic look at what I have left for space and be sure I have backups ready to go!

Photographers – consider this your PSA for the month 🙂

Also, check out these awesome bouquets that were made of WOOD this past weekend!! So awesome!!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
