How to Create a Professional Pricing Guide | Tips for Photographers

I truly can’t remember what I sent to potential clients when I first started my business, but I imagine it was just an e-mail with my prices listed. I did paper contracts too. Then, I went to workshop with Trevor Dayley and he showed us how he sends his pricing, and it was like a light bulb went off in my head!

Ever since then I’ve created and used pricing guides that look like online magazines to send to potential clients, and I love it. It’s considerably more professional looking and immediately sets the tone for what kind of experience they can expect with you!

You can make a pricing guide in a lot of ways but the two easiest are to make it in a word document or in photoshop. The key is that you convert them to PDFs so that you can upload them to a site to be used!

I used joomag.com in the beginning for a few years, and last year I recently switched to publitas.com. Both are free and fantastic options! They create a link for you to share, and it’s that easy to pop into the e-mail you send to an inquiry!

Here are the steps:

  1. Decide if you want to make it in a word document or photoshop (I use photoshop!).
  2. Make the guide 🙂
  3. Ensure that each and every page matches your brand and isn’t too overwhelming with “stuff.”
    • The pages I have are:
      • a cover page
      • a welcome page
      • an about me page
      • three testimonial pages
      • my pricing information
      • my print products
      • how to get in contact with me/book a session
  4. Convert them to a PDF file. I use PDFbinder on my computer to “bind” all the individual pages that I make in Photoshop into ONE file.
  5. Decide if you want joomag, publitas or some other service.
  6. Upload and you’re done!

Once it’s made, it’s so easy to tweak it over time as things change in your business! This is seriously such a great thing to have for your business because you come across as a professional! Let me know if you have any questions! I’m happy to help!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
