Change Your Angle | For Photographers

Today’s post is going to be pretty short and sweet. As photographers, especially on a wedding day, we can get caught up in doing the same things we always do because sometimes we’re rushed, or sometimes we just fall back on what we know. Lately I’ve been trying to push myself to get creative and do things differently, especially when I’m feeling a little stressed!

change your angle

Recently with a couple of different weddings, I’ve noticed a huge difference in a photo just by changing my angle or perspective of where I’m standing! Here are two examples, one from Allyssa + Mark’s wedding, and one from Erica + Tom’s wedding.

With Erica and Tom, just changing which side I was shooting from really changed the entire feel of the photo! The first one, the background is super blown out because of the bright sky. In the second one, by shooting from their left side, the background is more full and colorful and the photo shifts to focusing on Erica and her beautiful smile!

So, my second shooter actually got this bottom photo, and I’m SO glad she did! The top photo, you can see that just by standing normally, I couldn’t help but get all the parked cars in the field behind them in the photo as well. My amazing second, Jenn, crouched down and shot from a lower angle, and looking at the bottom photo, you’d NEVER know there were probably 50 cars behind them!

Basically, I just want to encourage you to try new things when shooting, especially when it comes to changing the angle or perspective you’re shooting from!  It can really make a difference and make a good photo even better!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
