I believe very strongly in nailing your images as best as you can IN camera so that you have way less editing to do later. Plus, it’s another way to really make sure you are growing in your technical skills and really understanding your camera! Don’t get me wrong though – I’m not saying that you should never edit your photos, because you should. You’re being paid for a service and people hire you because they love your style and your work. We edit our photos so that they match our own personal style, and that is SO important!
But!
Everyone loves a good before + after photo! I wanted to share a photo I took of Jessica Boudreaux while I was at the Salt Air Workshop in the fall! We had so much fun grabbing a few head shots during the styled shoot portion of the day!
Here is the before:
Here is the after:
The settings are as follows:
Exposure // +.30
Contrast // -36
Highlights // -57
Shadows // +20
Whites // -10
Blacks // +10
Tone curve // Highlights -48 ; Lights +30 ; Darks -15; Shadows -40.
I really love bright and warm images, and this speaks to my style so well! As you’re editing your photos, don’t be afraid to play around with new settings to figure out what you are really attracted to. My editing style has evolved so much and looks slightly different even from last winter! Though now I’ve finally found my groove and what I like to stick to!
