Hey there! I'm Linda! I was born and raised in Maine, spent the last 6 years in Portland, and now call the Boston area my home!
Most days you can find me playing on the floor with my daughter, writing love letters to my husband, and reading with a cup of tea!
I am mostly known for being able to find all the things my husband has lost, making as much food as I can from scratch, my obsession with chips and salsa, and my mad organization skills.
At Lindsay and Curtis’ wedding, Lindsay mentioned that she did not know what she was doing with her dress after the wedding, and had only just heard of preserving the dress recently. Therefore, I got the idea to do this post about some options for your wedding dress after the wedding is over!
There are several ways to do this. The easiest way is to go through your bridal shop and ask them to help you out with this. I went through my bridal shop to get my dress preserved at Wedding Gown Preservation Co. This does cost money, but they dry-clean your dress and put it all into an acid-free box where it can stay gorgeous for several years! Keep in mind that this option does take a while to do. I believe it was five months before I had my dress back. It was pretty simple though because all I had to do was drop it off and pick it up at my bridal store, and they took care of the rest.
This usually isn’t the greatest idea for the long term, but it’s okay when you’re trying to figure out what to do with it. A lot of times if you leave your wedding dress in the bag in your closet for many, many, years it can start to change colors and such. However, when the wedding is over, I would highly recommend getting it dry cleaned before it sits in your closet for a while.
Here is a great article that provides five places to donate dresses for a great cause!
If you don’t want to keep your dress, but want to try to get back some of that money you spent on it, selling your dress might be a good option for you. Here is a great website that you can use, besides eBay, to sell your wedding gown.
