She sent me a snapchat of a greenhouse with loads of succulents. I was so intrigued and in awe and we chatted a lot about this dream Lauren had – of creating succulent arrangements for weddings and events. Back then (I say back then like it was a long time ago, haha, but this was in the summer of 2017!) it was a friend who was giving her space in exchange for knowledge and some extra help with the greenhouse.
Lauren’s business has since EXPLODED and it’s been so freaking cool to have seen it all from the start. Lauren not only does succulent arrangements for weddings + events (like baby showers!), but she’s partnered with Willie Wags in Bangor for plant and sips that sell out every time, she does stunning custom arrangements to order, and she’s totally killing it.
Recently, we met up at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor and Lauren and Emily had set up a variety of arrangements that could be seen on a wedding day so that we can provide inspiration to future brides! Lily had so much fun playing with her and learning how to create arrangements! haha. I have the sweetest little sidekick 🙂 I’ve also asked her six questions that she’s so graciously answered for us!
Lauren, tell us a little bit about you and your story!
I’m a stay at home “homeschooling” mom of two, devoted wife & year round gardener who is super passionate about living life on my terms and turning my hobbies into money making experiences and projects! I’m truly wanting to grow and progress in all areas of life and want to show my children to follow their dreams! The gardening passion developed about 8 years ago and I’m so excited to share many wonderful plants and the knowledge I’ve collected all over Maine!
Why are succulents a good fit for weddings?
Succulents make beautiful wedding centerpieces. You can use them for the big day & even add flowers to the arrangements! They do last so much longer than cut flowers & are very versatile!
How can succulents be used for wedding decor?
Succulents can be used as wedding favors for friends and family to take home, can also be added to the cake, bouquet, ring box, reception centerpieces etc. Receptions look so beautiful with a little added greenery & a few hanging arrangements can really add a lot to the ceremony as well!
Do you have any basic tips for succulent lovers who want to have some at home?
If you’re worried about keeping your succulents alive- remember LESS is more when it comes to water. The number one killer of succulents is root rot from over watering. Only water your succulents when they are completely dry! Also remember to place them in a well lit place in your home that gets 4-6 hours of sunlight! As soon as the weather is above 40 degrees and free from frost and snow, succulents LOVE living outside! Remember that each plant has a life cycle and as they grow and change shape you can trim them or transplant to new containers!
Do you think this trend is going to stick around?
I had spotted the trend on Pinterest in 2015 when we got married and truly have only seen the trend grow! People who typically cannot remember to water their plants can even keep these alive so it’s wonderful to be able to share the plant love & have confidence that people will be able to appreciate the beauty for months or even years after the wedding!
