The World Didn’t End

A lot of small business owners go into business for themselves because they want to be their own boss, work better hours, and basically live the dream. In reality though, I think we are the worst bosses. We tend to work long crazy hours and be REALLY hard on ourselves, and not to mention unrealistic with our expectations sometimes.

I think that one area this happens in particular is in regards to social media. Even outside of small businesses, we feel this need to be so CONNECTED to the rest of the world  ALL. The. Time. We’re terrified we’ll miss out on something. That we’ll be forgotten or our business will start to crumble! As a society in general, we have such a hard time unplugging and spending REAL time with the people around us, instead of the thousands of friends and followers we have on social media!

We just bought our first house, and went through the holidays. What started as an accidental break from the social media world turned into an intentional break pretty quickly. I didn’t post to instagram or facebook. I didn’t blog. I didn’t do much of anything by way of social media for 14 days, and guess what?

The world didn’t end.

My business didn’t crumble.

In fact, it gave me time to really spend with my husband, friends, and family. I was able to think more clearly about my business, what I wanted to get out of it, and what I felt my purpose is.

Don’t be afraid to take a break – a real one, because what I’ve learned is you only get one life, and it’s time to live on purpose. Your business, your followers, your social media accounts will be waiting for you when you return, because I promise that the world will not end, and it’ll be okay 🙂

I’m excited to share with you this week my favorite photos from 2015, what I got out of 2015, and what I hope for in 2016. There are a lot of big changes coming around here!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
