The Power of Intentional Goals

I couldn’t do the pose in this photo a month and a half ago, and I definitely couldn’t do it a year ago. How did I get here?

Well, my friends, it’s because I used Lara Casey’s PowerSheets, and I learned how to set intentional goals that actually matter and leave me feeling fulfilled. One of my goals is to do yoga on a regular basis. I’ve been using my Tending Lists to hold me accountable for doing yoga 3 times a week.

I don’t know about you, but having a box to check off is a HUGE motivator for me.

I started small, with yoga once a week, and then slowly started building up. Now I’m practicing at home (usually with Lily hanging off of me) 3 times a week if not more. The results have been subtle, but when I was able to do this pose for the first time a few weeks ago, it hit me just how much progress I’ve made! In my action plan for this goal, I wrote that I was going to celebrate by taking a photo of what was once a difficult pose for me, so here I am!

Over the past years, I’ve always just made a list of goals for me to work on, but never really understood WHY I wanted to set those goals, and why they would matter in 40 years! That has been such a gamechanger for me this year working through Lara’s goal setting activities on her blog, and then getting the PowerSheets in the summer!

Other ways that setting intentional goals has changed my life:

  • I’m forming healthy habits that I lost over time, and am working to get them back.
  • I spend intentional time with my husband.
  • Lily and I do one planned craft or activity a week that is developmentally appropriate.
  • I’m getting outside more.
  • I’m making progress in my LIFE.

Do you feel like you need to start changing up how you set goals? Check out this blog post I wrote at the beginning of the year about being intentional with your goal setting!

Friends – what are some of your goals you’ve made progress on lately? Share them with me in the comments! I’d love to cheer you on!!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
