You might look at this photo and just see a messy pile of blankets and pillows. But when I look at this photo, I see the magic that happens here.
Lily doesn’t really snuggle with me anymore unless she’s really sick. But she will happily lay down next to me on the same pillow and pull the blankets up over her while we read books, sing, and play with her red panda (Red).
It’s these small moments that I treasure more than anything else. I can look at this photo and remember the way Lily plays with her hair while we read, and how she likes to point at things on the pages and say “what’s that!”, and how she really likes to turn the pages on her own.
In these moments, there are probably other things I could (or “should”) be doing. Sometimes though, just sometimes, those things can wait. Nourishing my daughter’s mind and soul will always matter more. We’ll get back to the daily grind right after we relax and play 🙂
