Our 4th of July

As we get older, and as Lily gets older, we are trying to start our own traditions and do “our own thing.” Surprisingly, this has been harder than I thought it would be, on an emotional level. This year we decided to stay down here in Boston for the 4th of July because it wouldn’t have worked out to travel back to Maine to be with our families that day and still make it back in time for work.

This year our friend Cali invited us to join her and her family and some friends at her grandfather’s house on the cape. She mentioned a private island and a private beach and I was sold! Y’all know how much I LOVE the ocean! It was my first time visiting the Cape and it was beautiful! I can totally see why people live there!

We had the best day with her and her family. Lily had her first boat ride (which she was mostly scared of in the beginning but definitely held it together – we are so proud of her!) around the island and we ended up anchoring in a spot where all the boats go! We were able to swim around in the ocean for a bit and it was SO nice! Lily did such a good job swimming around! I also learned that it’s so much easier to swim with a child if you’re also wearing a life jacket! I could’ve swam all day with her like that!

But, then we found out the battery on the boat died, haha. Thankfully we still had our sunscreen for Lily and her water bottle, so even though we were out on the boat for probably 5 hours total, she was okay. We had to get towed back and on the way back, since it was a much slower ride, Lily fell asleep on me and I was in heaven about it!

We had a big family style dinner, and Cali, Lily, me and Steven got to hang out on the beach for a bit and look for some sea glass. It was really fun, and I found some good pieces!!

We weren’t planning on staying for the fireworks, but we ended up staying and Lily was scared but also trying to be brave, and it was really sweet! She also saw her first firefly, and that was pretty cool 🙂 Overall, we had a fantastic day, and I wanted to share some of the photos we took on the 4th of July! 🙂

We are so grateful to Cali and her family for being so gracious and welcoming!!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
