Hello, 2017!

Well, 2017 is officially under way and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and reflecting.

Sparkly things always remind me of new beginnings :)

Sparkly things always remind me of new beginnings 🙂

2016 was a big year for me. I photographed 15 weddings, several portrait sessions, welcomed our first baby into the world, left teaching and am now pursuing my photography business full time while staying home with my sweet girl. I learned so much last year. I mostly learned that I am capable of much more than I think I am.

I’m stronger than I think I am.

I haven’t done much with my business this past month and I think it’s because I knew on some level that I needed to take the time to recharge and just focus on me and my family. I’ve been thinking a lot about 2017 and what I want to get out of it – mostly on a personal level.

Some people think it’s hokey to set “new years resolutions” or make goals just because it’s a new year, and that’s fine. But if you’re one of those souls who like to be intentional and want more for themselves by making these goals, then that’s fine too! Don’t ever let anyone make you feel bad for being in either of those categories. I happen to fall into the category of making goals!

I’ve decided that I really only have one goal this year.

To only do things that fill my tank.

I’ve been given an amazing opportunity in life. I get to spend time being a mom and a business owner and making the life of my dreams. Not many people get that chance and I don’t ever want to take it for granted. So, I want to fill my time that I have doing things that fulfill me. That make me feel good about my time and my life. Things like:

  • trying to do yoga every day.
  • drinking more tea.
  • less netflix and more books.
  • scrapbooking.
  • going for walks.
  • cooking new meals.
  • singing the wheels on the bus to Lily just because it makes her so damn happy.
  • blogging about personal things.
  • photographing. gosh, photographing JUST for the sake of photographing. That’s been missing in my life for a while.
  • dreaming about house projects and trips with Steven.

I’m tired of doing things because it’s what I “should” be doing, or because I’d feel guilty for saying no.

Well, no more my friends.

2017 is going to be the year where I get inspired. Where I love life even more than I do now. Basically, it’s going to be a kick-ass year and I hope you come along for the ride.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
