Feeling Discouraged?

I get it. I’ve been there. Hell, I was there just two weeks ago. We all get discouraged and feeling like we’ve been beat down. Go ahead and feel that way and acknowledge it, but don’t sit in that feeling for too long.

You know why? Because your hopes, dreams and goals are worth it. If they still matter to you, and they still fire you up, then you fight for them. You work harder than before and you get creative.

Use all the reasons you think you can’t to build a foundation. Prove yourself (and anyone else) wrong!

I used to think that because I hadn’t felt this way in my business yet, that I never would, and boy was I wrong. I wallowed in it and it took a lot out of me. If I could back and do it again, I’d allow myself only a day or two of that nonsense, and then I would get back to work because that is what works best for me.

Going after what you REALLY want isn’t easy. There are a lot of fears that can hold us back that we don’t even know are actually there.

Here are some tips I want to share with you that helped me get out of my funk:

  • Get outside. I’ve always felt that nature has been such a healer for me, especially any time by the ocean.
  • Talk to a friend. I have a few close friends that I turn when I feel this way and they always do a fantastic job of reminding me of how far I’ve come, how capable I am, and that I’ll get through the tough spots, because I always have.
  • Write it out. There’s something powerful about getting it all out on paper. I think it really clears up space in your mind to focus on the next steps.
  • Take a break. We wear busy like a badge of honor in our society, and I just don’t agree with that. It’s OKAY to step back and take a break for a few days or even a week or two to clear your mind.
  • Make a plan. What are you going to do next to reach your goal? If you don’t break it down into little tiny steps, it’s going to be so much harder to get to where you want to be!

How about you? Do you have any tips for what to do when you’re feeling discouraged?

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
