Being Your Own Boss

It’s not easy. Being your own boss, that is. And if we’re being honest, I’ve kind of been terrible at being my own boss these past few weeks.

There have been a lot of things I’ve been wanting to do, but I just haven’t done them. I need to figure out a better way to maximize my time that allows me to feel good about what I’m getting done both professionally and personally.

It’s hard!

I bought a laptop in the fall specifically so I could get out of the house on a regular basis and crank out some work. Guess what I haven’t done yet? Not even once? Yeah. I haven’t left the house to get work done.

I went into business for myself for a lot of reasons. One of them was to live a life I love and to have the flexibility and freedom I wanted with my schedule. I think I’ve been taking this a little too far lately, haha. There has definitely been more play than work going on and that’s not normal for me. The slow season is usually when I work SO hard to prepare for the upcoming season (which starts in ONE month for me!! ah!! 😀 😀 ) and to learn new things and brainstorm how to make my business better.

This post is to hold me accountable. For a lot of things really. Like:

  • blogging regularly again (I’m getting back to this!)
  • leaving the house once a week to get uninterrupted time to get work done.
  • to talk with Steven each week to figure out the best days for me to get “office time” since his schedule varies from one week to the next.
  • doing more physical activity. It makes me more productive and a better photographer.
  • being more intentional with my education, and my social media.
  • reminding myself WHY I’m doing what I’m doing, and that if I want to keep doing it, I have to put the work in.
  • being a better boss lady.

For those of you out there struggling to meet goals, find someone that WILL hold you accountable. Discuss what you want to happen and how you’re going to make it happen. It’s so much easier to stay on track when your goals are public and someone is checking in with you!!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
