Good Reads | Winter 2018

Oh my gosh, have I been on a reading FRENZY! And I love it!! I’m far more likely to stay in and read a good book than I am to binge watch Netflix or go out on the town (which I don’t ever really do, haha). I wanted to share some of the good books I’ve read lately, and two of them are from my 2018 book list, which I’m working through pretty steadily and successfully!

  • Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card// Steven got me this book for Christmas because he likes to try to get me to read genres I typically wouldn’t. I didn’t realize how long ago this book was published! It’s a sci-fi book, and it was actually really interesting, but in a weird kind of way! I thought that it ended up being a really great pick for me to read! The end also totally took me by surprise!
  • The Glass Castle by Jeannette Wells// This was a book club pick, and I’m not usually one to be a fan of autobiographies, but this was one completely captivating. I couldn’t put it down! The author has such a beautiful way of telling her story of her childhood, and it’s so mind-blowing that some families actually live this way here in this country! It made me sad for her, but she came out of it pretty well and has definitely made a name for herself! Highly recommend this one!
  • Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist// (from my 2018 book list!) A book I definitely will be reading again in the future. It was full of so much grace and permission, and such a beautiful story of Shauna’s life and how she is choosing to live a present life, one that isn’t perfect, but real.  It definitely made me emotional when I read some parts of it and really challenged the way I think about my own life!
  • Loving My Actual Life by Alexandra Kuykendall//  (from my 2018 book list!) This was a really fun read! It’s Alexandra’s 9-month experiment to love her actual life just the way it is. She focuses on one thing each month that she wants to improve or embrace and it’s so highly encouraging! And she writes it so freaking well! I am really excited to work on my own experiment starting in a few months!
  • Origin by Dan Grown// Oh Dan Brown, you’ve outdone yourself once again. I have been reading a lot of his books lately, and each time I am blown away by how skilled of a writer he is! This is his most recent book and damn is it good! I was really impressed with myself that I guessed how it ended! I bought this book for Steven for Christmas, and when he couldn’t put it down, it made me excited to read it myself!
  • All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood// This book isn’t pictured above, and was also a book club book. This was weirdly captivating as well! It was also a heartbreaking story to read, but one I would definitely recommend! I feel like I can’t say much about the book without giving it away, but it was a great pick for us girls to chat about!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
