Tips for Planning Your Wedding | Advice from real brides – 2017 Edition

Hey friends! There’s a lot of advice floating around on the internet these days about how to plan your wedding. For each wedding, my brides fill out a questionnaire and at the end I ask for any advice they’d like to share. So, I wanted to share those answers with you today!

From Katie:

“Use Linda Barry as your Photographer!! She sends the cutest, most thoughtful gifts to keep your stress levels down during the planning process. She is also always on-top of deadlines, and easy to keep in touch.”

From Megan:

“Take time out of the busy planning to remember why you are getting married! Linda, you have reminded us of this several times during the planning process and we really appreciate it!”

From Jane:

“Relax, have fun, and focus on the most important part: marrying your best friend!”

Jane and Noah had a bright and simple wedding at the Round Top Farm in Damariscotta Maine. Click here to see more of their beautiful wedding photos by Linda Barry Photography!

From Meagan:

“TAKE YOUR TIME! You’ve made your initial commitment when she/he proposed, hold on to that! This is the only time you’ll be his fiance-use that word until it makes others sick. Taking a longer time lets you enjoy being engaged without the pressures of jumping right to the wedding. You know you love her so take your time, enjoy this “courtship” and think about your REALISTIC wedding. Taking a 3 year engagement worked for our lives specifically but it also gave us plenty of time to create new ideas, reject ideas, and create some more. We had the time to plan a wedding that was realistic to our overall goals and plans. We have each other, at the end of the day, rain or shine, that’s all we need.”

Brad and Meag had a vegan wedding at Hotel UMASS in Amherst. Click here to see more beautiful images from this wedding by Linda Barry Photography!

From Katie:

“Give yourself time and make sure you take it. I did nearly everything myself; my advice is that wedding planners or coordinators are wonderful!”

Katie and Nick were married at the Whispering Pines Conference Center in Rhode Island. Click here to see more wedding photos by Linda Barry Photography!

From Melanie:

“Plan the wedding together – it takes the stress off of the bride and you are able to make sure it is what you both want. The wedding and all the planning is about the bride and groom – not everyone else, so make sure you are happy with everything.”

Melanie and Mike were married at Clay Hill Farm in Cape Neddick Maine. Click here to see more beautiful photos by Linda Barry Photography of their burgandy and navy wedding day! Bride and groom fall wedding photos.

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.

I share all things personal, business, tips, and life as a mom and business owner here on the blog!
