Lily’s 3rd Birthday BBQ!

I can’t believe that this is the third year that Steven and I have laid down in our bed when the day was done and just reflected on how truly amazing our life is. We are SO grateful to have so many friends and family who care so much for Lily and willingly choose to come to a toddler’s birthday party (especially if they don’t have kids!). It’s a special breed, and we are so beyond thankful to have wonderful friends in our life.

It’s kind of funny, as we were making the list of invitations we should send out, we realized just how many friends we’ve made over the past year since living here because our list was significantly greater than last year. Lily helped make our guest list and it was pretty fun to hear her talk about who she wanted to invite!

This year was the FIRST year it didn’t downpour on her birthday! Steven was pretty pumped to not have to grill in the rain this year 🙂 Every year we’ve tried to keep it low-key so we do a BBQ and just hang out. This year we actually did tie-dying and I think it’s going to be a new birthday party tradition! Lily had so much fun doing it, and I think everyone else did too!

Last year was the first time we had made a birthday cake for Lily (we had one made for her first birthday!) and I had a blast making the frosting and putting it on the cake. But we also decided last year that we would take turns frosting the cake, and then we’d let Lily add sprinkles or whatever else we had to the top. This year Steven frosted the cake and it was pretty awesome! But I realized I never got a photo of the finished product 🙁 haha.

Lily got some awesome gifts this year and a ton of amazing books that we’ve been loving reading! It was so funny to see the difference from this year and last – this year she was all about opening the present and then moving on to the next one! I also loved that when it was time to blow out her candles, she first stuck her finger in the frosting, looked at me and said “do it like this?” and then ate some of it, hahah. I just love her sweet soul!

I’ll stop my rambles there, but I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from her birthday party!

You can usually find me adding books to my never-ending “to read” list; challenging myself to do things like not shop for a year; sneaking crispy m+ms from my secret hiding spot so I don’t have to share them with my daughter; and melting over seeing my children smiling at each other.

Oh and I guess I should mention - I’m a seasoned Portland wedding photographer who provides not only kick-ass wedding photos, but also a meaningful and laid-back experience from the time you book to the delivery of your final images.
